Muddled McDonalds
An Experimental Architecture
2023There are 41,000 McDonald’s worldwide that undergo renovations every 8-10 years. Architectural assemblages such as windows, doors, bricks and signage used at each of these stores has a lifespan from 40-100 years, (steel components being on the latter end). When a renovation is happening every 8 years where do these (very usable) materials go? Muddled McDonalds is an experimental architecture that proposes using old McDonalds restaurants as a corporate incubator for methods of deconstruction over demolition. In cataloguing materials from the previous building, comes the reuse and reimagination of existing architectural materials in novel forms.
